Demo Rhino Cutting Pattern

Only for registered users

The newest feature of www.membranes24.com - Rhino cutting pattern -  allows you to create cutting patterns in combination with the 3D modelling software Rhinoceros 4.0.

The basic idea is like this: When you have completed the form finding process using our Membrane Designer, you have to import the dxf-file containing the geometry into Rhino 4.0. Alternatively, you can directly create the geometry in Rhino using the commercial plugin Rhino-Membrane. In a next step, subdivide the mesh into smaller strips using the functionalities of Rhino (e.g. cutting planes, mesh repair). With the help of the free Rhino plugin and our website, you will then be able to generate the cutting pattern for each individual strip.

Here are the necessary steps:

  • Download the free export plugin:
    M24CutpatExport.rhp
  • Use the Rhino plug-in manager (_PlugInManager) to install the plug-in (please refer to the Rhino pages for additional information)
  • Now it's your turn: Create the the to-be-flattened geometry in Rhino. Please note that you cannot generate cutting pattern for NURBS surfaces, as the algorithm works only on polygonal meshes (maximum allowed node number is restricted to 1000).
  • Use the command "m24cutpatexport" to generate a "*.cutpat.m24" - file.
  • Upload the generated *.m24-file in the DESIGN section of membranes24.com using the "Rhino cutting pattern" template.
  • After hitting "Calculate" and waiting for a few seconds, you will see the 3D input shape as well as the generated cutting pattern.
  • As usual, you will get a dxf of the resul, i.e. the cutting pattern.

If you have any questions, please post them on the Forum. Thanks!!!
