Demo Google SketchUp

This short tutorial will demonstrate you how to import the geometry of a tensile structure, which you have created with the online form finding tool provided by www.membranes24.com, into Google SketchUp.

  • After you have successfully created your membrane structure, you have to save the dxf file of your geometry to a local folder on your computer. If you can see a preview of your membrane, simply right-click on "here" and then select "Save as...".
If you don't know how to generate a form at all, have a look at this basic tutorial.

    Save dxf file

  • In the next step, open Google SketchUp (if you don't have the program installed, you can download it here). To import the geometry, go to the "File" menu and click on "Import...". Select then the dxf file, which you have saved previously on your computer.

  • After a successful import, you should be able to see your "own" membrane structure immediately. From now on, you can use all the nice features of Google SketchUp to add textures to your membrane, create the support structure, etc., etc.
